Professor Jorge Gurgel

Professor Jorge Gurgel is originally from Fortaleza , Brazil where he started his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey as a young 14 year old in 1992. Gurgel then moved permanently to live in the United States in 1998 to pursue his dream of fighting in the UFC.


He was awarded his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt in 2002 by Marcus Aurelio, under team SAS.


In 2004, Professor Gurgel got the call to be the very first Brazilian born fighter to star in the second season of the popular TV show The Ultimate Fighter Season 2, earning him a contract with UFC in 2005.


Along with his UFC career, two UFC fight of the night awards, professor Gurgel also fought and headlined main events for Strikeforce, TITAN FC and King of the Cage and ZST in Japan.


Professor Gurgel’s true gift is coaching.


He has trained and coached from scratch numerous UFC fighters such as Rich Franklin, Dustin Hazellet, Dorian Price, Matt Brown, Justin Edwards , Tom Murphy, Sean Salmon,Tommy Hayden, Marcus Davis and Dan Spohn amongst many others in every major fight league including a UFC and Bellator world champions.


Since 2010 to this day, professor Jorge Gurgel has also been one of the official UFC interpreters for pay-per-view events for both Portuguese and Spanish-speaking fighters.


Now Gurgel is a 5th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Master Sazinho Sá and Muay Thai Kru under Ajarn Scott Howard.


A pioneer of the sport, mindset coach and a world renowned MMA trainer, professor Gurgel now focus his time and attention developing his students of all walks of life at JGMMA.
